What do you think are some of the potential solutions to overcrowding that we should make to our prison system today? How can we maintain a balance between punishment for offenders and the safety of society?
Since the 1980s, America's prison populations have exploded, in large part due to the War on Drugs and "Get Tough on Crime" initiatives. Overcrowding causes serious problems in maintaining security and massive prison costs. Some states have taken actions to reduce their prison populations, with early release programs and rehabilitation options.

I agree with one of the 10 ways to reduce overcrowding. And that is to allow more prisoners to get credits to take off a years or so to get out earlier. It will get a lot of the drug users out faster if they participate in a drug rehabilitation program

I agree with the FAMM alternative ideas to prison. I think it would be a good idea to have drug courts because drugs are such a big problem now. Forcing criminals to take urine tests would allow for the courts to make sure that they're following the right path and eventually would have a chance to avoid pleading guilty

I read the 10 ways to reduce overcrowding and i think that it is a good idea to let older prisioners out of jail because they are at a minimal risk of offending again. Also, it is a good idea to let criminals who are not at rick of reoffending get credit for early release through good behavior. Also, taking one year off the sentence if they are inrolled in a rehab program.

The older and people that are deathly ill should be able to leave the prison, since they're close to dying anyway and they should be able to spend the last bit of life with family. Also, people who you know who 130% did the crime should get the death penalty.

The people who are older and have high medical needs should be able to go out on parole, or electronic monitoring so that they are able to get better medical attention, and with being on parole they are still accounted for.

They should go through all the prisoners, and the ones with the least amount of years sentenced should be able to look at probation,a half-way house or house arrest until they show that they are capable of being in society without being a threat to others or themselves. They are checked on every single day every 8 hours by a cop in that town they are staying in. Until they get a job,and can be on their own. The half way house would be a place where they could look at only 2 hours out on the town each day to look for a job but have to be back at a certain time or else cops are notified and they will be arrested.

I think that a person arrested for marijuana is not a big deal they shouldn't have prison sentences and that all child molesters and rapist and cereal killers, etc should be killed.. That would save a lot of room for people that actually need to be in jail.. Child molesters, people like that do not deserve to be able to get out and do it again let alone have taxpayers pay for them to live. No not okay.

we can solve over crowding by buying a different country and sending all of the prisoners over there. we can maintain order by offering some more punishments to influence them to not commit a crime.

Some of the ways that I read to reduce the number of people in jail is to give a shorter sentence for non-violent crime. Also, putting more people on parole would reduce this problem. Finally, I believe that we should stricken the more violent crime such as a death penalty for those who murder, this would save room and money.

I read 10 ways to reduce the overcrowding and i think they should release the older people, or are in there for minor crimes and put them on parole or probation to make room for the more violent criminals.

After reading the How to Reduce Prison Crowding article, I thought the point to give drug offenders a shorter sentence was interesting. It's similar to the prohibition. So many people are doing drugs it's impossible to stop it. So just give them some time and let them be to make their own choices no matter how dumb they may be

I agree with the politics article about 10 ways to reduce prison overcrowding. I think that they should send fewer people to prison or for a lesser sentence because drugs are the most common crime for people in prison and it doesn't do harm to anyone else besides yourself so i dont think they should be in jail for that long.

I honestly, agree with their top there top ten list. But in personal opinion, i think murderers should executed or get a death sentence.

If the criminals are let free they should be put in a place that has 24 hour watch over them. Which could be with cameras or anything but they can leave but they have to come back at a certain time or its greater punishment.
